The difference between CSIR NET and UGC NET exam is here:

CSIR NET
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts the Joint CSIR UGC NET in the field of Science which includes following topics:

Life Sciences,
Physical Sciences,
Chemical Sciences,
Mathematical Sciences and
Earth Atmospheric Ocean & Planetary Sciences jointly with the UGC

It is a national level entrance exam for postgraduate candidates of science and engineering discipline who wish to qualify for admission in PhD research and/or university level teaching jobs in the country.

UGC NET
The University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals.

The Test is conducted in following topics:

Humanities (including languages),
Social Sciences,
Forensic Science,
Environmental Sciences,
Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science

Although University Grants Commission conducts UGC CSIR and UGC - NET exams, both are different fields.

Both are conducted for eligible students with junior research fellowship and to determine eligibility for lectureship.

UGC CSIR NET exam is carried out in science streams like Chemical, Earth, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences.

The UGC - NET exams are conducted in Sociology Arts subjects like Humanities, Environmental, Social, Forensic and Electronic Sciences.
It also includes Computer Science and its applications.

Both these tests are held two times a year, mostly in June and December.

The subjects involved are different.
The qualification criteria are also different for both these exams.

UGC NET Eligibility;
The applicant should have a masters degree with 55% marks form any recognized University.

CSIR NET Eligibility;
The applicant should have BS 4 Years program/BE/B.Tech/B.Pharma/ MBBS/ Integrated BS-MS/M.Sc or equivalent degree with at east 55% marks for general and OBC
(50% for SC/ST candidates, physically and visually Handicapped candidates)

Candidates enrolled for M.Sc or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.
