The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts prelims exam annually. To apply for the prelims exam the applicant must have a Degree of a Recognised University or equivalent. Following are the details of it:

(A) Tentative Schedule

Scheme of CS (Preliminary) Examination
General Studies Paper - I 200 Marks
General Studies Paper - II 200 Marks

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has published the exam calendar for 2015 recently and has announced the exam dates for Civil Services (Preliminary)-2015.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) exam will be held on August 23, 2015 and application process will start June 12 2015.

Civil Services (Preliminary) exam is conducted for recruitment of various civil services and posts.

Age Limit:

The candidate should be minimum 21 years of age.
The maximum age limit to apply for the UPSC Exams is 29 years.

Educational Qualification:
The candidate should have a degree completed from any of the institutes established by an Act of Parliament or any University deemed by the University Grant Commission under section 3, Act, 1956.

Number of attempts:
Every eligible candidate is allowed to attempt the Civil Services Examination 4 times.

Prelim syllabus

Paper I - (200 marks) Duration : Two hours
Current events of national and international importance.
History of India and Indian National Movement.
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development -Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation
General Science.


Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision-making and problemsolving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X level)
English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level)
