Esalen Institute is a residential community college and retreat center in Big Sur, California. The institute focuses its attention on activities such as personal growth, meditation, massage, Gestalt, yoga, psychology, ecology, spirituality, and organic food. The institute was founded by Michael Murphy and Dick Price in the year 1962. Esalen soon became known for its blend after its establishment of Eastern and Western philosophies examined in experiential and didactic workshops by Murphy and Price’s effort.
