Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra), is an autonomous engineering and technology oriented institute of higher education.

Birla Institute Of Technology is a Deemed University under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
It was established in 1955.

BIT became the first technical University in India to establish an Overseas Extension Centre – at Bahrain, in 2000.
