Allopathic Medicine (M.D.) MD class admission statistics 2013 : Class Statistics Total applicants: 4,233 applications for the fall 2012 entering class All entrants took the MCAT and had baccalaureate degrees The first-year class is comprised of: 60 undergraduate institutions 28 states 76% majored in the sciences 18% were social science majors/other Age at entrance ranged from 20-37 43% are female and 57% are male 23% of the student body are members of underrepresented minority groups The average age of first-year medical students nationwide is 24. The national percentage of applicants accepted to medical school in 2008 was 45.6%, down from 50.4% in 2003.
