Geological Survey of India (GSI)

Geological Survey of India (GSI) was founded on 1851 is a government administration in India under through the Union Ministry of Mines for carrying on geological surveys and studies. It is one of the most previous of such administrations in the Earth. The study of the Geological Survey continued primarily exploration for coal, chiefly for powering steam transport, and later oil reserves, and ore deposits. It constructed significant contributions to seismology through its meticulous investigations and studies and elaborate reports on numerous Indian earthquakes of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
