Define static indeterminacy. Determine the static indeterminacy of a fixed beam of span L loaded with a concentrated load at mid span. 2. Define Influence line. Briefly explain Kanis method of structural analysis. 5. Discuss the analysis of stresses due to temperature changes in steel frames. 6. Derive from fundamentals the basic slope deflection equations. 7. State and explain D Alemberts principle. 8. Distinguish between free vibration and forced vibration. (8 5=40 Marks) Module I 9. A portal frame having legs 4 M height is fixed at A and D. Horizontal member BC is having 6 M length. The moment of inertia of AB and CD is I and that of BC is 2I. BC carries a uniformly distributed load of 20 kN/M. Analyse the frame by the method of consistent deformation and draw the BMD and SFD. 20 10. A continuous beam ABC having length AB 6 M and BC 4 M is simply supported at A, B and C. Draw the influence line for BM and SF at a section 2 M from the left Module II 11. A continuous beam ABCD 18 M long having three span with AB 4 M, BC 8 M and CD 6 M loaded as below. Span AB, a concentrated load of 40 kN at 3 M distance from A Span BC, a udl of intensity 10 kN/M whole length Span CD, a concentrated load of 40 kN at mid span.
