1.1 The Central PWD is the agency of the Central Government operating
throughout the country for planning, construction, maintenance and repairs of all
works and buildings financed from Civil Works Budget including renting and
purchase of buildings and Estates work at places where Directorate of Estate is
not functioning. These do not include works of Atomic Energy Department,
Central Water Commission, P&T Department, All India Radio, Space Department,
and Railways. The Department executes the works of Defence Ministry, Shipping
and Surface Transport, Transport Ministry (Roads Wing) and External Affairs
Ministry (Outside India) as and when asked for.
