The Name of the Director of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing is Dr. A. Senthil Kumar

Earlier Life And Education

Dr. A. Senthil Kumar(born on March 27, 1958) obtained M.Sc. in Applied Sciences in 1981 from Anna University and M.Sc. (Engg) and Ph.D. in Electrical Communication Engineering and Instrumentation with specialization in Optical Image Processing from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1985 and 1990 respectively. He joined Space Applications Center, ISRO, 1991.

About the Career :

He moved to National Remote Sensing Center, Hyderabad in 2002 wherein he took responsibility of establishing quality assurance elements for IRS user products and services.

He was also instrumental in setting up ISRO’s radiometric calibration site at Shadnagar. He served as Deputy Project Director for Chandrayaan-1 Data quality assessment of ISRO’s electro-optical payloads and also co-principal investigator for Moon Mineral Mapper.

As Group Director of Geophysical and Special Products, he has contributed to realization of many land surface geophysical products with IRS sensors data.

Since February 2015, he has been designated as Director of Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun where he guides faculty to conduct advance topic courses and enhance outreach programs of IIRS.

He is presently also the Director of UN affiliated Center for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific.

Achievement

He has published about 87 scientific publications in peer reviewed national and international journals.

He presently holds the responsibility as Vice President of CEOS Working Group on Capacity Building and Data Democracy and President of ISPRS Technical Commission-V on Education and Outreach for 2016-2020.

He has also recipient of prestigious Satish Dhawan Award for 2015 and ISRO team awards for his contribution in Chandrayaan-1, Cartosat-1 missions and Calibration/Validation.
