The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) is a state corporation established in 1986 and mandated to undertake research in forestry and allied natural resources.

The institute conducts research and development activities under five thematic areas namely:

Forest productivity and Improvement
Biodiversity and Environment Management
Forest Products Development
Policy and Governance and Technical Support Services

Eco-Region Forestry Research Programmes-

Central Highlands Eco-region Research Programme (CHERP)- Muguga
Drylands Eco- Region Forestry Research Programme – Kitui
Rift Valley Eco-Region Forestry Research Programme – Londiani
Lake Victoria Basin Eco-region Forestry Research Programme – Maseno
Coastal Eco-Region Forestry Research Programme – Gede
Forest Products Research Centre – Karura
