The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering was set up at Gulmarg by the Government of India, Department of Tourism, in the year 1969 with the aim to introduce adventure sports among the youth and to promote the tourism industry. Names of the Course Duration Skiing 14 days Trekking 4-10 days Water Skiing 10 days Paragliding 7 days Parasailing 6 days White Water Rafting 7 days Adventure 14 days Mountaineering 21 days Hot Air ballooning 5 days Requirement for clothing In Spring, light woolen with raincoat. In Summer, Tropical clothes, for trekking one should get light woolen clothing with rain-coat, good walking hard sole shoe, a pair of socks depends the grade of trek. For water skiing one waterproof short pant, swimming trunk, ultra violet rays repellent cream (sun burn cream). In Autumn, light woolen with warm jacket or coat. In Winter, heavy woolen with warm over dress such as jacket, woolen sweeter.
