Minimum Educational Qualifications:
For Registering for CPT:
Candidates must have passed 10th Standard Examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto.

For Appearing at CPT:
Candidates must have passed 10 + 2 examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto.

Examinations treated as equivalent to Senior secondary (10+2) examination:
All India Senior School Certificate Central Board of Secondary Education
Delhi Senior School Certificate Central Board of Secondary Education.
Indian School Certificate (Class XII) Examination Council for Indian School Certificate.
XIIth Standard Higher Secondary Examination Board of High School and Intermediate Education. Uttar Pradesh
XIIth Standard Higher Secondary Examination West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education
XIIthStandard Intermediate Examination Bihar Intermediate Council, Bihar
XIIthStandard Higher Secondary Examination Council of Higher Secondary Examination, Orissa
XIIth Standard Higher Secondary Examination Board of Higher Seconadary Education, Assam
XIIth Standard Higher Secondary Certificate Examination Gujarat Secondary Education Board

There is no particular age limit for appearing for CA CPT exam

Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test CA CPT Examination is conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for admitting the aspiring students to Chartered Accountancy course.

The institute conducts Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT) twice in a year in the month of June and December

CA CPT Exam Eligibility

The students must have passed 10+2 examination or its equivalent, from any recognized Board.

There is no stipulation as to the minimum age required for registering for the course.

CA CPT Exam Pattern

The exam is of total 200 marks

Paper consist of objective type multiple choice questions

The duration of exam is 2 Hr.

Exam conducted in two modes by the institute i.e

1. Paper Pencil Mode: Paper Pencil Mode of Examination is conducted in morning session and evening session with each carrying two parts.

2. Online Registration Mode: For Online Registration Mode of Examination, the students have to fill an examination form Online and then, this examination is held at various centers across India.

Session–I (Two Sections - Two hours - 100 Marks) (10:30 to 12:30)

Subject Marks
Section A Fundamentals of Accounting 60
Section B Mercantile Laws 40

Session–II (Two Sections - Two hours - 100 Marks) (02:00 to 04:00)

Subject Marks
Section C General Economics 50
Section D Quantitative Aptitude 50

CA CPT Exam Syllabus


CA CPT Exam should have basic knowledge in fundamental of Accounting, mercantile law, general economics and quantitative aptitude.

Topics in each subject are given below.

1. CA CPT Syllabus of Accounting

Theoretical Framework, Bank Reconciliation Statement, Accounting Process, Introduction to Company Accounts, Partnership Accounts, Accounting for Special Transactions, Preparation of Final Accounts for Sole Proprietors, Depreciation accounting, Inventories.

2. CA CPT Syllabus of Mercantile Law

The Indian Contract Act 1872, The Sale of Goods Act, 1930 and the India Partnership Act, 1932.

3. CA CPT Syllabus of General Economics

Economic Reforms in India, Select aspects of Indian Economy, Indian Economy – A Profile, Price Determination in Different Markets, Theory of Production and Cost, Theory of Demand and Supply, Micro Economics.

4. CA CPT Syllabus of Quantitative Aptitude

Sampling Theory, Theoretical Distributions, Probability and Expected Value by Mathematical Expectation, Correlation and Regression, Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion, Statistical description of data, Basic concepts of Differential and Integral Calculus, Limits and Continuity - Intuitive Approach, Sets, Functions and Relations, Sequence and Series – Arithmetic and geometric progressions, Basic concepts of Permutations and Combinations, Simple and Compound Interest including annuity - Applications, Inequalities, Equations, Ratio and proportion, Indices, Logarithms.
