Here I am giving you question paper for Madurai kamraj university, m.a in economics, quantitative methods examination in PDF file with it ..

Paper Pattern:
The paper is a numerical paper
The questions asked are divided into 2 sections;
Questions of Section A are to be answered in 1 page and questions of Section B are to be answered in 3 pages.
The mark which is assigned to this paper is 100 and time is 3 hours only.
The questions in Section A are of 10 marks each and questions of Section B are of 20 marks each.
Section A is of 40 marks and Section B is of 60 marks.

Answer any FOUR questions.
Answer to each question should not be less than a page.

1. Point out the properties of homogeneous function.

2. Solve:
x2 + xy = 12
xy – y2 = 2

3. Describe the advantages and limitations of geometric mean.

4. Calculate coefficient of variations for the following:
Marks: 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80
Students: 13 35 60 84 96 127 198 250

5. Bring out the uses of correlation

6. Is there any association between smoking habits and its adverse effects for the data given below:
TB Smokers Non Smokers
Affected persons 100 60
Not affected persons 80 1000

7. Explain purposive sampling with examples.

8. Write a note on level of significance.
SECTION B

3 x 20 = 60 marks
Answer any THREE questions.
Each question carries 20 marks.
Answer to any question should not be less than 3 pages

9. Write an essay on the significance of function.

10. Solve xy / x + y = 70, yz / y+z = 140, zx / z+x = 84

11. Solve by simplex method:
Maximise 6x1+ 3x2 = 5
Subject to x1 + 3x2 <= 9
x1 + x2 => 5
2x1 + x2<= 8
x1, x2 => 0

12. Calculate correlation coefficient (Karl Pearson methods).
X: 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 40
Y: 60 58 58 50 48 48 48 42 36 42

13. Explain Nine Square Tables with examples.

14. Write a short note on:
(a) Normal distribution
(b) Binomial distribution
