Are there any scholarships for studying PHD in Germany?

Germany has become a popular choice for Indian students for higher studies. German universities combine research and studies and have been the scene for ground-breaking discoveries such as the printing press, computer and mp3 that have become an inseparable part of our modern lives.

DAAD Scholarships

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers long term scholarships for PHD candidates. DAAD has two kinds of scholarship offers:

(a) Scholarships for three years research of a PhD-candidate in Germany under the
Supervision of a German professor. The doctoral title in this case would be awarded by
the German university according to its rules and regulations.

(b) Scholarships for the so-called sandwich model, i.e. for a research stay between one
and two years at a German university for PhD-research. In this case, the doctoral title
is awarded by the Malaysian university according to its rules and regulations. The
German professor who is supervising the research stay in Germany could e.g. act as a
secondary supervisor.

The deadline for these scholarships is October 15 each year.
