George Brown College is a public, fully accredited college of applied arts and technology with three full campuses in downtown Toronto, Ontario. It was established in 1966 by the government of Ontario.

Early Childhood Education (Part–Time)

The Early Childhood Education Act requires membership in the College of ECE for anyone wishing to use the title of Early Childhood Educator in the province.

Program Description

Earn an Early Childhood Diploma on a part time basis by taking one to three courses per semester in the evenings.

The program trains students to work with children aged six weeks to 12 years, in a variety of early childhood education settings.

Field placements are completed in six-week blocks.

Graduates of this program will meet the requirements of an E.C.E. Diploma in Ontario.

Early Childhood Education diploma prepares students for an exciting, rewarding career working with young children.

The Early Childhood Education program balances academic courses and field placement.

Students are trained in the theory and practice of working with young children.

Graduates will have the skills to meet the responsibilities of a career in early childhood education.

This program enables students to gain skills and knowledge through classroom theory and field practice:

Assess the needs and interest of children
Develop and maintain positive relationships with children
Develop and evaluate curriculum
Work in partnership with families and community
Create safe, stimulating and culturally sensitive environments for children in their care
Work as effective team members in child care settings, full day kindergarten and school based programs

Students can take from one to three courses per semester and will complete this program in three to five years.

Courses are offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and the three field –placement are six-weeks each and taken on a full-time basis (hours vary from 8:30-6pm, 5 days a week).

The program has intakes in September, January and April.

Students must attend an orientation session.
