Central Leather Research Institute - CLRI is the world's largest leather research institute in terms of research papers and patents. It was founded on 24 April 1948 as a constituent laboratory under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Chemical Laboratory— Chemical Laboratory is among the first laboratories of the Central Leather Research Institute and currently the research in the laboratory is focused towards role of metal ions in biology, at interfaces and in micellar medium. Focus is predominantly in the areas of -- Inorganic Chemistry Physical Chemistry Surface Science Computational Chemistry Environmental Chemistry and Leather Science Major focus of the laboratory is in the areas of -- Metal ions in biology, At the interfaces and In micellar medium and development of environmentally benign technologies for leather.
