The University Department of Mathematics was established in 1963.
The Department has been recognized by the Department of Science and technology as 'DST-FIST sponsored Department' for five years from the year 2002 to receive funds for improving infrastructure.

Here I am giving you the eligibility criteria and basic guidelines for taking admission in
Ph.D. course in Mumbai University

The candidates who have passed NET/SET examination or completed M.Phil degree as per UGC guidelines can apply for this course.

Candidate should have to submit their application at Office of the University Department of Mathematics with a fee of Rs. 100/ (cash) for admission to the Ph.D. program during the specified period of the year.

Candidate who does not have above mentioned qualification should have to fight Ph.D. Entrance Test

Ph.D. Entrance Test (Mathematics) (PET) conducted twice a year by the Controller of Examinations.

The Ph.D.(mathematics) program is conducted by the University Department of Mathematics, 2nd floor, Ranade Bhavan, Kalina Campus, Santacruz(east), Mumbai 400 098.

The candidates who have passed the PET with a minimum of 50% marks can apply for Ph.D.

Here I am giving you the fee structure of Ph.D. progarm

Tuition Fees : Rs.4000
P.G Registration Fee : Rs.1000
Library Fee : Rs.1000
Students' Welfare Fee : Rs.50
Gymkhana Fee : Rs.200
E-Charge Fee : Rs.20
E-Suvidha : Rs.50
Sports & Cultural Activities Fee : Rs.30
Disaster Relief Fund Fee : Rs.10
Group Insurance : Rs.40
VC Fund Fee : Rs.20
Other Fee : Rs.1875
Total : Rs. 8295.00

I have almost complete information about the university of Mumbai. So here I am telling you about it as you want.


Rules and regulations regarding admission to PhD are framed by the University of Mumbai from time to time in line with the framework provided by University Grants Commission.

Applicants applying for the Ph. D Programme need to pass the PhD Entrance Test (PET) conducted by the University of Mumbai twice in a year. A pass in the PET examination is valid for three years from date of passing.

Applicants with any one or more of the following qualifications are exempted from appearing for
PET.

Applicants Qualified in GATE / NET /SET / JRF Examination / teacher fellowship holder of the apex bodies CSIR / UGC / ICAR / ICMR / DBT only.

Applicants who have completed M.Phil. Degree from University of Mumbai or any other recognized Universities as per UGC guidelines from time to time.

Approved teachers affiliated to the University Department or affiliated colleges havingnot less than FIVE years of full time continuous teaching experience after the date of the first approval of appointment of the University of Mumbai.

Applicants who fulfils the conditions for eligibility as laid out above, shall make an application to III in the prescribed form seeking admission to the PhD programme, along with a Demand Draft/ Cash for Rs.1000/-(Rs.500/-for candidates belonging to reserved category)

Candidates fulfilling one of the following criteria shall be exempted from Ph.D. entrance test
(PET).
