Here I am looking for the syllabus of B.Sc. (Hons.) (Statistics) offered at Aligarh Muslim University - Department of Statistics. Can you please tell me from where I can get it??

The Aligarh Muslim University Department of Statistics and Operations Research was established in 1953. The Dr. A.R. Kokan was appointed as the first Lecturer. The name of Chairman of the Aligarh Muslim University - Department of Statistics is Prof. Qazi Mazhar Ali.

B.Sc. (Hons.) (Statistics) Syllabus:

Paper-I (ST-103)

Unit I:

Types of Data: Concepts of statistical population and sample from a population,
qualitative and quantitative data, nominal and ordinal data, cross sectional and time series data,
discrete and continuous data, frequency and non frequency data. Different types of scalenominal,
ordinal and interval. Analysis of Categorical data: Consistency categorical data. Independence and association of attributes. Various measures of association for two-way and three-way classified data. Odds ratio.

Unit II:

Analysis of Quantitative data: Univariate data: Concepts of central tendency or location, dispersion and relative dispersion, skewness and kurtosis, and their measures including those based on quantiles and moments for moments Sheppard’s corrections for grouped data (without derivation).

Unit III:

Bivariate data: Scatter diagram, Product moment correlation coefficient and its properties. Correlation ratio, Correlation Index, Rank Correlation Spearman’s & Kendall’s measures, Concept of regression, Fitting of linear regression and related results.

Multivariate data: Multiple and Partial Correlation and regression (3 variables only) and properties of residuals.

Unit IV:

Time Series Analysis: Economic time series, different components, illustrations, additive and multiplicative models, determination of trend, growth curves, analysis of seasonal fluctuations, construction of seasonal indices.

Unit V:

Index Numbers: Meaning, uses and scope of Index numbers, Price relatives and quantity or volume relatives. Link and chain relatives, computation of index numbers (Laspeyre’s, Paasche’s, Marshall-Edgeworth’s and Fisher’s index numbers), chain based index number, consumer price-index numbers.
Tests for Index Numbers: Time and Factor reversal tests & Circular test.

Paper-II (ST-104) Probability Theory

Unit I:

Random experiment, trial, sample space, event, concept of mutually exclusive, exhaustive and equally likely events. Definition of probability (classical and axiomatic). Properties of probability, addition and multiplication theorems of probability, conditional probability and independent events. Bayes’ theorem and its applications.

Unit II:

Discrete random variables, probability mass function (pmf), Cumulative distribution function (cdf) and its properties (without proof). Expectation, variance and its properties, Relation between central and raw moments. Standard Discrete Distributions: Uniform, Bernoulli, binomial, Poisson, geometric, negative binomial and hypergeometric distributions and their mean and variance. Moment generating function (mgf) and probability generating function (pgf). Some properties of mgf. Mean and variance of above discrete distributions through mgf and pgf .

Unit III:

Continuous random variables, pdf, cdf and its properties (without proof), Expectation, Variance and its properties. Standard Continuous Distributions: Uniform (rectangle), exponential, gamma and normal,
their mean and variance. Moments & mgf of the above distributions and also their mean and variance through mgf.
