Nalanda Open University (NOU) was founded in March, 1987 and it is a famous postgraduate university at Patna in Bihar state in India. It is called after the illustrious Buddhist University of Nalanda, the ancient seat of studying. In 1995 the Nalanda Open University enactment was passed, and the University came under the legal power of that law. Nalanda Open University has twenty-eight Study Centers all over Bihar. Nalanda Open University is the only university where several courses on Bihari Languages (Magahi, Bhojpuri, and Maithili) are provided.
